Why Acupuncture?

  • Chinese medicine is one of the oldest forms of medicine on the planet, having had at least 1500 years of development. Acupuncture is widely practiced in Southeast Asia and China, as well as extensively in Europe and even in South America. There is even an acupuncture training program at the Harvard Medical School.

  • Research has shown that acupuncture is extremely safe, when practiced by properly trained practitioners.

  • Acupuncture works on the body's many different systems at the same time, helping in many ways.  Through the insertion of fine solid sterile needles, an acupuncturist can help your body regain the balance it has lost, using time-tested treatment methods.

Consultation

During this visit your acupuncturist will ask about your condition, its history, and the treatments you have previously had. We will get information about your other medical conditions and drugs, supplements, and herbs you are currently taking. We will then interview you in the Chinese medical way, asking about things that indicate your Chinese medical imbalance. We'll ask about likes and dislikes, weather affecting your condition, and many other symptoms that will clarify our understanding of you in the Asian way. We will then take your pulse the traditional Chinese way, look at your tongue (also in the traditional Chinese way), and do a thorough examination of the abdomen and other areas of the body that will clarify your pattern of disharmony.

We'll spend time educating you about our analysis of your case, our suggestions for treatment, and our estimate of how many treatments will be needed. We will also educate you about the methodologies we use, their effectiveness, and their safety.

Your initial visit with us will take from 1 to 2 hours, depending on the complexity of your situation.
