Why Acupuncture?

  • Chinese medicine is one of the oldest forms of medicine on the planet, having had at least 1500 years of development. Acupuncture is widely practiced in Southeast Asia and China, as well as extensively in Europe and even in South America. There is even an acupuncture training program at the Harvard Medical School.

  • Research has shown that acupuncture is extremely safe, when practiced by properly trained practitioners.

  • Acupuncture works on the body's many different systems at the same time, helping in many ways.  Through the insertion of fine solid sterile needles, an acupuncturist can help your body regain the balance it has lost, using time-tested treatment methods.

Followup

After your initial evaluation and acupuncture treatment, your acupuncturist will ask you to return a few times. These treatments may be as close together as daily, three times weekly, twice weekly, or once weekly. This frequency will depend on the assessment of your practitioner. These repeat treatments will help solidify your improvement because each treatment builds on the benefits gained at the last one. Your body often wants to go back to it's familiar conditions and postures, so we try to encourage the body to stay on its new course.

Later, you will come less frequently, every two or three weeks, or monthly, or less, depending on how your condition is doing. You may find that your acupuncture effect 'wears off' at a certain time. You should tell your acupuncturist and you can schedule your follow ups accordingly.

After you are feeling better, you may find that coming for treatment once monthly, every other month, quarterly, every 6 months, or less often suits your condition and your situation. We are eager to have you help us understand what is best for you and will work with you to find a follow up plan that works for you and benefits you the most.
